7 Tips for a Happier and More Productive Workplace

It’s that simple. And all you need to create a happy work environment is the time to do so. 

Let me walk you through 7 easy tips you can adopt to increase the level of happiness at work:


1. Always say “thank you”

And say it sincerely. Instead of a generic “Thank you for all your efforts” during an assembly, be specific. Send a direct email to your employees and show your appreciation.


2. Make employees part of the big picture

Communicate with them clearly and frequently about organization and department goals and activities. Everyone wants to feel that their work has a higher purpose, so help your people by engaging them every now and then.


3. Celebrate with your employees

Whether it is a work anniversary, a birthday, or an engagement … participate in the things that mean to them on a personal level.


4. Ask your employees

Ask them specifically about what motivates them and what they need to facilitate their jobs. Transparent communication and a simple acknowledgment that you hear them can go a long way.


5. Set the example

Be a leader, not a boss. Do not sit by and wait for others to do the hard work. Be out on the frontlines with your people and show them the way.


6. Offer benefits beyond the basics

Offer health plans, gym memberships, and/or life/disability insurance to protect their income. Even with a lower salary, such benefits can go a long way towards keeping employees happy and committed.


7. Create a clear career pathway

Hold regular career-planning discussions with employees. Let them be aware of the different types of development opportunities and career paths available to them within the organization.
