Unlocking the Transformative Power of Empowering Women

Every year on March 8, we stand together on International Women’s Day, men and women of all races and creeds, to promote greater equality and celebrate women’s achievements in culture, politics, economics, science, sports, and virtually every aspect of life.

The theme for International Women’s Day this year, “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change” puts innovation at the center of efforts to reflect the needs and viewpoints of women and girls around the world.

At Saradar Bank we’ve made that commitment and we’re sticking to it.

Thinking equal

Although women make up over half the population of the world, in many countries we still have limited mobility and access to income-generating activities, education, healthcare, and other basic rights.

In the business world, for example, only 25 of the Fortune 500 companies had a female CEO in 2018. Globally, we only make 77 cents for every dollar earned by men, for work of equal value.

Things are different at Saradar Bank.; take a look at the figures: women make up almost 53% of our family, and hold over 58% of all managerial positions, which, you have to admit, is quite impressive.

How did that happen? We made Creating a unique environment for our people one of our key values. We encourage transparency and inclusiveness, and support each other to succeed; this means promoting gender equality and organizing team-building activities to enhance cooperation and teamwork.

Building smart

We need transformative change in large-scale infrastructure, both virtual and physical, to give women better representation across a wide range of fields, including science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and design.

This is why Saradar Bank is sponsoring the Women’s Race in Beirut for the third consecutive year to empower women. By running for themselves, their cause, their health, and their loved ones, women from all walks of life can realize that they are capable of much more, take control of their lives, and build the foundation for a better future.

To echo the words of our Chairman and CEO, Mario Saradar: “The Women’s race is a platform that involves women in competitive sports, empowering them to run forward towards bigger goals, higher dreams and wider objectives. Women play an important role in our society and it is our duty to give them the needed support to achieve their objectives.”

Innovating for change

Disruptive digital technologies, especially in finance and banking (Fintech), are key to removing structural barriers to gender equality in the workplace and society at large, and reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly number 4: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Such innovations are not based on traditional gender roles, they allow remote employment and enable greater financial autonomy. So they can empower women to play a more active role in building more inclusive systems, efficient services, and sustainable solutions.

This is partly why Banking Made Simple. (i.e. going digital) are words we live by at Saradar Bank, and we hope that the International Women’s Day can gain greater traction and achieve a bigger impact.

To all women out there, celebrate International Women’s Day in your everyday life!
